COLUMBIA – South Carolina’s Katelyn Dambaugh scored a seven under par 65 to obtain the lowest score of Sunday’s round of the ANNIKA Intercollegiate.South Carolina sophomore Katelyn Dambaugh is confident Gamecocks have a chance to win the NCAA Tournament.That allowed the Gamecocks women’s golf team to finish the first round of the tournament tied for sixth at a two-under 286.Dambaugh opened the tournament with eight birdies, starting on the par-four second. She had five birdies on the front nine and made the turn at 4-under before registering birdies on No. 13, 14 and 17. She is two shots clear of the field.Sarah Schmelzel (T14) marked the other Gamecock under par. The senior recorded a 2-under (70). She birdied two of her first three holes, and tallied her final birdie on number 10 after making the turn at 2-under.Sophomore Ainhoe Olarra (T41) finished with a 2-over (74), recording two birdies in the first round, while junior Jia Xin Yang (T50) opened her tournament with a 5-over (77). Freshman Isi Nilsson shot an 8-over (80) and ended the day in a tie for 57th.Southern California sits atop the leaderboard after opening with a 276 (-12). Duke (277, -11) and Texas A&M (278, -10) round out the top three following the conclusion of the first day.
