Backup UK QB Phillips ruptures Achilles

first_imgRedshirt sophomore quarterback Reese Phillips, a backup last season to Kentucky starter Patrick Towles, ruptured his Achilles tendon during a workout Wednesday and will require surgery, UK spokesman Tony Neely confirmed.The injury is expected to keep Phillips out of the Wildcats’ spring practices. He could return this fall, Neely said.Phillips, who measures at 6-foot-2 and 218 pounds, was twice an all-state selection at Signal Mountain (Tenn.) High School. He appeared in three games last season for UK, completing 2 of 9 passes for 45 yards with an interception in relief of Towles.last_img
