Overland Park gives direction on how to help support victims of City Place fire

first_imgPhoto via city of Overland ParkOverland Park officials this morning are still sorting through the aftermath of Monday’s massive fire at the City Place development near College Boulevard and Neiman Road. The mixed-use development was mid-construction when the blaze broke out yesterday afternoon, shooting hot ash and debris into the sky that sparked 17 house fires in the residential development to the south of the site.Fire officials are still investigating the cause of the blaze — a 40-person arson task force was briefed on the situation this morning and is in the process of examining the scene — but efforts got quickly underway to offer assistance to those affected.Overland Park this morning posted the following information on how people can help:Help for Fire VictimsReport damage to your home: Call the Overland Park Fire Department at 913-888-6066.Support and lodging: Go to the Christ Lutheran Church near 119th and Indian Creek Parkway.How You Can HelpChrist Lutheran Church and the Red Cross are receiving monetary donations for fire victims. At this time, donations in the form of food, water and clothes are not needed.On its website this morning, Christ Lutheran said that while “currently we have plenty of volunteers,” people interested in volunteering to assist with helping victims and recovery efforts should email their care ministry division here.Overland Park is updating this webpage with the latest information on the investigation as well as aid efforts.Overland Park on Tuesday released the following video from the scene of the fire:last_img
