It was from the whip’s office and said: “Members are requested to vote IN FAVOUR of an amendment by Glenys Kinnock, which will require Parliament’s restaurants to label all bananas as ‘good banana’ or ‘bad banana’. Good bananas are from ACP countries, bad bananas are from the US. They can also be easily recognised by looking at their texture. ‘Good bananas’ are the shrivelled-up, brown, smelly, short bananas that have flies on them. ‘Bad bananas’ are the strong, virile, long, yellow, tasty ones that are likely to have run out by the time you get to the basket.”It was only when they noticed the signatures at the bottom from fellow Socialist MEPs Helle Thorning-Schmidt and Michiel van Hulten that they realised it was a seasonal prank.
