The vehicle flipped and caused the damage.“Unfortunately, the tanker fell in a neighborhood that has shops. They all lost their goods to the fire,” Baba said. One witness said it was while residents were scooping the fuel that an 18-seater bus rammed into the fuel tanker, causing the explosion.Local police said they have launched an investigation into the incident.Related Dozens feared dead in Nigeria oil tanker fire 10 killed in tanker explosion in Nigeria southwestern state of Osuncenter_img Nigeria fuel shortage trends on social medialast_img read more

first_img Spencer German Related TopicsCleveland BrownsJarvis LandryJosh GordonMiami Dolphins CLEVELAND, OH — This Browns offseason has been dominated by talk of what player and position Cleveland will look to address with the No. 1 pick. That changed on Friday.According to multiple outlets, the Browns have traded a singular draft pick from both 2018 and 2019 to the Miami Dolphins to acquire speedy slot receiver, Jarvis Landry. Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network had was the first to report the blockbuster trade. While agreed to by both sides, the deal cannot be made official until 4 pm on March 14, when the new league year begins.Cleveland has yet to confirm the trade, but the team’s twitter account did react to the news…?— Cleveland Browns (@Browns) March 9, 2018The Browns have been linked to Landry since before the trade deadline this past season, but nothing came to fruition back then. It’s no surprise that their interest in the three-time Pro Bowler resurfaced when he became available this offseason. While it may seem unwise to trade draft capital for a player who a was tagged for the sole purpose of being traded, only to then have to lock him with a massive long-term deal, it’s not as if Cleveland doesn’t have an embarrassment of riches when it comes to both picks and money. The Browns are projected to have $110 million in cap space – a league high – when free agency opens on Wednesday. They also have 12 draft picks in 2018.According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, neither of the picks that Cleveland is sending to South Beach are in the first or second round of their respective year’s draft, making the swap extremely favorable for Cleveland. Schefter also shared that the Browns are already working on an extension for their newest wideout.Landry has been a staple in Miami’s offense since he was selected 63rd overall in the 2014 NFL Draft. In each of this four seasons with the Dolphins he caught more than 80 passes and racked up 4,038 yards and 22 TDs. Twice, in 2015 and this past season, he caught more than 100 balls, something the Browns have never seen done by a receiver in team history. In 2017, Landry was the NFL’s receptions leader with a career-high 112 receptions. He also scored a career-best nine touchdowns. The addition of Landry is a welcomed one for a Browns offense that ranked in the bottom third of the league in passing yards and 28th in passing touchdowns a season ago. The return of Josh Gordon after his latest hiatus from footballe due to substance abuse issues was a welcomed one that produced flashes of progress. But Cleveland’s lack of weapons overall were a major contributor in the now infamous 0-16 season. Now, with a receiving corps of Gordon, Landry and Corey Coleman, plus versatile running back Duke Johnson out of the backfield and 2017 first-round pick, tight end Davis Njoku, the Browns offense has no shortage of weapons. This offensive makeover is hardly complete, either. It’s no secret Cleveland is still desperately searching for their quarterback of the future, which they could find with the first overall pick come April. Regardless, whoever ends up under center for the Browns in 2018 will have quite a supporting cast.last_img read more

Senate Finance Co-Chair Lyman Hoffman said on Monday that the Department of Education has received the second-lowest cuts out of all Departments, with the State Judiciary the only one with a lower percentage taken from their budget. Erkeneff said there will not be time for public comment during today’s work session, but there will be other opportunities… Erkeneff: “We’ve been developing all of our budget forums for quite some time, actually since last fall, for lots of comments. As always, anybody can contact a principal or send a letter to District Administration around the budgeting or contact Borough Assembly Members or School Members, but there’s no official comment set up for this work session through the School District side.” Borough Mayor Mike Navarre previously told the Assembly that if they want to fund the School District to the cap (the maximum amount allowed by law), there will have to be an increase in the Borough’s property tax rate. first_imgLOS ANGELES,  (Reuters) – American Deontay Wilder retained his WBC heavyweight title after a thrilling split decision draw with Britain’s Tyson Fury at Staples Center in Los Angeles yesterday, leaving both fighters talking up a rematch. The hard-hitting Wilder knocked Fury down twice, including a brutal right-left combination that sent the towering Fury to the canvas in the 12th in what initially looked to be the end of the fight. But the ‘Gypsy King’ willed himself to his feet and held on to send the fight to the judges, who rewarded him for controlling much of the fight behind his long jab, precise footwork and slippery defense. One judge scored the fight 115-111 to Wilder, another 114-112 to Fury and the third had it 113-113. The scorecards showed that Wilder benefited greatly from his two knockdowns in the ninth and the 12th, which all three judges scored 10-8 in favour of the champion. In all the other rounds the fighters were separated by a single point.Wilder said he thought the battle was over when he saw Fury’s eyes “roll into the back of his head” as he fell hard on his back early in the 12th round.Wilder at first celebrated with a shimmy only to appear stunned when Fury beat the count and got back on his feet. Both fighters preserved their unbeaten records with the draw, but both thought they had done enough to earn the victory in the bout, which played out before 17,698 fans in downtown Los Angeles.“I think with the two knockdowns I definitely won the fight,” said Wilder (40-0-1), adding that he started slow and rushed his punches in a sub-par performance.“We poured our hearts out tonight. We’re both warriors but with those two drops I think I won the fight,” he said in the ring after the fight. “When I rush my punches like that I’m never accurate.“The rematch I guarantee I’m going to get him.”FURY’S REDEMPTION Former world champion Fury (27-0-1), in just his third bout since a two-and-a-half year absence from the sport following mental health issues and a failed drug test, was convinced he should have walked away with the title.“We’re on away soil, I got knocked down twice, but I still believe I won that fight,” said Fury, who out-landed Wilder 84-71 overall.“That man is a fearsome puncher and I was able to avoid that.“The world knows I won the fight.” After exchanging harsh words in the leadup to the fight, both men were full of praise for each other following the final bell and were eager for a rematch.“One hundred percent we’ll do the rematch,” Fury said. Fury also taunted Anthony Joshua, the undefeated holder of the WBA, IBF, WBO and IBO crowns, from the ring.“We are two great champions,” he said. “Me and this man are the two best heavyweights on the planet.” A win for Wilder would have likely set up a blockbuster world heavyweight unification title bout next year against the 22-0 Briton, a fight the American has long sought. But in the widely expected rematch with Fury, the 33-year-old ‘Bronze Bomber’ will likely need to win to get his shot.last_img read more

first_imgThe People’s Progressive Party/Civic (PPP/C) does not support the passage of an early budget, saying the dynamics of the situation limit its scrutiny of Government’s performance.Finance Minister Winston Jordan had announced that the National Budget 2017 would be presented in early December and would aid in the timely implementation of Government’s agenda.Former Junior Finance Minister Juan EdghillHowever, the PPP/C is contending that it will not get to examine and compare the actual expenditure for 2016, since the 2017 Budget will be presented and debated while the 2016 Budget is still being implemented.Former Junior Finance Minister Juan Edghill, during a news conference on Monday, explained that the books for the fiscal year close on December 31; therefore, if the Budget is presented before that date, then figures on the various Ministries and agencies’ performance will not be available for comparison during the budget debates.“We will be debating and examining a budget where a current budget is being executed and we don’t know for sure actuals. For example, between December 21 and December 31, do you know what the expenditure of this country can be? If the books are not closed, we don’t know how much they spent, how much is their capital expenditure, how much is their current expenditure to find out what we are doing for 2017; so we will be at a disadvantage,” Edghill explained.Given these circumstances, he suspected that Government’s early budget presentation could be its sneaky way of evading public scrutiny.“We are very concerned if this is another three-card trick that is being played out in the public where we are going to be duped. Is this another form of corruption to hide underperformance and create opportunities for greater levels of corruption….?” he mused.Edghill maintained that there was no haste for an early budget presentation, noting historically, the country’s budget was presented in the first quarter of the fiscal year. He noted too that there were already mechanisms in place for the interim spending of the Government, which is 1/12 of the previous budget, until the new budget is presented and passed.last_img read more
